Keep Tooth Decay At Bay: Understanding Oral Bacteria

A recent study analyzing DNA from calcified plaque on the teeth of historic populations, characterizes how our evolving diet has lead to a chronic case of tooth decay.  As our diets have transitioned from hunter-gatherers to farmers to manufacturers, there have been some serious negative changes in our oral bacteria. With the introduction of processed sugar and flour in the Industrial Revolution, the diversity of our oral bacteria has declined dramatically. This lack of diversity has lead to an increase in tooth decay among today’s population.  If you would like to learn how to fight tooth decay, then call Sonoma Smiles in Rohnert Park at (707) 200-1191.  For more on how our evolving diet has led to an increase in tooth decay, view the full article here.
