Scientists Create Smart Tooth That Can Monitor Health Habits
Researchers have
created a “smart tooth” that detects how much time a person spends chewing,
drinking, eating, coughing and reading. The smart tooth capitalizes on the fact
that activities from chewing to drinking to tooth grinding, all cause the jaw to
move in varying directions. Sensors embedded into the teeth can gather
information and analyze what action patients are performing based on what way
their jaws are moving.

children to ship their teeth to the Tooth Fairy for prompt payment. Using a set
of flexible PVC pipes, a vacuum and a microcomputer, Highsmith created a
pneumatic delivery system that is triggered by smartphone. For the full article click here.

Can Brushing Our Teeth Actually Do More Harm Than Good
Conventional wisdom has us believing that it is always a good idea to brush our teeth after consuming food or sugary beverages. However, recent studies suggest that this can actually cause our teeth more harm than good. Same-Day Crowns Allow Dentists to Make a Crown While a Patient Waits
Whereas
traditional crowns used to require multiple dental visits and up to a
three-week waiting period, new digital technology allows dentists to make
crowns in less than two hours while the patient waits. The same-day crown system begins with
the dentist taking a three-dimensional picture of the tooth and adjacent teeth,
and then using software to design the crown. With the simplicity of a mouse click, the design is then sent
to the milling machine, which sculpts the tooth from a small block of ceramic.
