Whereas
traditional crowns used to require multiple dental visits and up to a
three-week waiting period, new digital technology allows dentists to make
crowns in less than two hours while the patient waits. The same-day crown system begins with
the dentist taking a three-dimensional picture of the tooth and adjacent teeth,
and then using software to design the crown. With the simplicity of a mouse click, the design is then sent
to the milling machine, which sculpts the tooth from a small block of ceramic.
