A new
review published in The Cochrane Library
found that patients who regularly used fluoride toothpaste containing the
antibacterial agent, triclosan and a copolymer saw a noticeable reduction in
the presence of plaque and gingivitis as well as bleeding gums and tooth decay.
The study compared the use of toothpaste containing fluoride only with the use
of a triclosan/copolymer toothpaste. While further research is needed, the ADA
is not surprised by the findings. For the full article, click here.
